Writing good articles is important to your online branding and success, but what you put in your article’s resource box is even more crucial. After all, you’re not writing an article just for the heck of it. You want your reader to take an action, to visit your site, to hop onto your mailing list. And to encourage that action, you need to offer something of value. Here’s a list of possibly valuable offers:
- Cheatsheat – Compile a simple reference set of notes for completing a simple task or to save your reader the effort of looking up information. It could, for instance, be a list of simple html codes or Google shortcuts.
- Checklist – a simple list of things of to be done to aid your memory and to keep you on track. For example, a checklist of the steps to follow in installing a WordPress blog.
- Free Trial– if you have a program you offer, create an introductory trial, on video, as an email series or as a limited time offer
- Report – create a free report by compiling several of your related articles or posts into a short informational report
- E-book – similar to a report, but generally longer, with more complete information. If you haven’t yet written an e-book, check out PLR e-books that others have created and that you can rebrand with your own links.
- Audio Interview – record an interview with a mentor or colleague, and offer it as a free bonus for your mailing list.
- How-to Video – create and record a video that gives useful information. For examples, go to YouTube and look for videos on your topic. You could either create a slide-show video or a video of you demonstrating something. Use good lighting and be professional!
- Coaching – think of your strengths and abilities, and create a multi-part coaching program. Offer it as an email series or webinar.
Your resource box is your last chance to lure people to your website or blog. It goes without saying you must write a quality article – after all, it’s what brings readers all the way down to your resource box. However, what you offer in that box is what gets them to your site, onto your list, or buying your product.
