The myth of the Great American Dream has led many of us to a belief that we are entitled to a wonderful life – with an exciting and fulfilling career, success, a close and loving family and a happy life.
However, the real truth is something very different. There is no free ride in life, and to attain a dream – whatever it is – takes a lot of hard work, personal introspection and an unwavering vision of what you desire. One and only one person is responsible for the quality of your life – and that person is YOU.
You want success in your career? Looking for love and friendship? Want to make a lot of money, and live happily ever after? Then take 100% responsibility for everything in your life.
And that’s not an easy lesson to learn. From our earliest life, we’ve been conditioned to blame something or someone else when things don’t turn out like we’d want. We blame our parents, our teachers, the government, the economy, our boss … the list goes on.
To create the life you want, the income you want and the business you want, you have to take 100% responsibility. Give up your victim stories (we all have them), your excuses, why it ‘won’t work’, your blaming of circumstances. Look at your challenges as challenges, not problems.
You and you alone have the power to make it different. If you get results that aren’t what you planned, then ask yourself, “How did I create that? What do I need to do differently next time?” You either create or allow any results in your life. Wouldn’t you rather be a creator?
Dr. Robert Resnick has put this into a simple and memorable formula:
E + R = O
Event + Response = Outcome.
Simply put, by changing how you respond to events, you can change the outcome.
You have the ability to change the thoughts you think, the images you visualize and the actions you take. Change your behavior, your words, and your beliefs, and the outcomes you experience will also change. The day you start to change how you respond, your results will start to improve, and you’ll become the creator of your own life.
