Does your blog have a tag line? If not, why not? Every blog should be started with an end in mind. Why are you putting it out there for the world to find? What is its purpose? Who are you hoping to attract as a reader or subscriber?

Writing a tagline for your blog has many benefits, such as:

  • It’s a hook to let new readers know what you’re about, and why they should subscribe to your blog feed. Readers who can’t quickly understand what your blog is about will probably leave quickly.
  • It will help you crystallize ideas for posts, advertising copy and articles, and keep you on the right track.
  • It can serve as a promotion piece. Think of your tagline as your “elevator pitch” – what you can tell people succinctly when they ask what you do.
  • You can use it as a signature line in your emails and on your social media sites as a short description of what you do. It will become part of your personal branding.
  • It will help you with seo of your blog – in creating your tag line, you’ll want to list words that apply to what you’re all about. These keywords can be great starters for future seo rich content.
  • Use your tagline on your business cards. It will help others remember who you are when they refer back to a card that you’ve given them.

Your blog should be purposed to solve problems or fulfill needs that potential readers may have. A good tagline will communicate this. Keep it short, audience defined, and energized.  Consider using a question, since people are wired to answering questions. And finally, convey some excitement or inspiration in your tag line. Show people you’re passionate about what you do, and readers will catch your excitement and want to be part of it.
