Meet Nicki
Each life has defining moments – ones that cause us to change and grow. Likely you, just like me, have had quite a few of those over the years.
My first defining moment was when I left our small town at the age of 17 to start my university education in the big city of Vancouver. What a scary thing for a shy farm girl, but also the start of several memorable years. I found new friends, new loves, new confidence and new possibilities.
Life Lesson: Only by testing our inner edges can we learn to soar.
The second defining moment was when I faced my first grade three class of students. They were mine for the year. What a responsibility! It was a year of growth, both for them and me. I found I loved working with children, helping them see what the world had to offer. My years as a teacher-librarian were my most exciting and rewarding years in the education system.
Life Lesson: Teaching others and helping them grow is rewarding and fulfilling… and fun!
Meeting my husband, Dennis, and marrying him certainly helped define who I am. I have learned so much from him over the years. He’s a perfect example of someone who is most in tune with himself when he is sharing and giving. For many years we’ve worked as a team, first in our photography business and now in building an online presence. We found we had complementing talents, and made a good team.
Life Lesson: Find a soul mate to work beside and learn with. Work from your strengths.
Artistic creativity has played a big part in my life.
For me, gardening was once a major chore. Now it has become one of my creative outlets and passions. I enjoy sharing what I’ve learned on my gardening blog, “Through Nana’s Garden Gate.” I achieved expert status as an article writer with Ezine Articles. Many of my articles on gardening were also submitted to other article directories.
Currently, m
y creative side has turned to watercolor painting, with many of the flowers I grow in my gardens as my subjects. I find my artist’s eye sees so much more around me than it once did.
Life Lesson: Discover and follow your passions, and how you see the world will change.
Dennis and I worked hard for several years, built up a very successful business, and sold it in 1994. Although we had made a lot of money along the way, taxes took a huge chunk. And the guess what… the world changed. We realized we’d need to do something to supplement our income once we left the business arena.
We joined an MLM company and quickly realized that neither of us wanted to flog products to friends and family, hold home meetings, or attend weekend events. We hadn’t the skills or knowledge we needed, and training was almost non-existent.
We realized we needed to learn a whole new way of business and marketing, since the traditional methods of MLM marketing just didn’t apply to the new online economy that we were exploring.
Life Lesson: Always be open to learning and change. The change curves in life are really amazing possibility curves if you see them as I do.
